My beloved Hammers beat Sunderland 1-0 on Saturday afternoon UK time, significantly easing the stress levels of everyone associated with the club. In many ways it’s a lot easier for me living in Australia, as it’s usually the middle of the night  when the guys are playing, and instead of sweating it out for a couple of hours, I get to sleep through the excitement. I’ve got so accustomed to waking up to bad news on a Sunday morning, that when I hear the overnight result, it no longer ruins my day. Sure I still get that initial sick feeling. Twenty years ago when they lost, I used to feel bad all week, but it now only lasts for an hour or two. Anyway back to last nights match, and the euphoric news that greeted me when I  reached out for my iphone early this morning and hooked up with BBC Sport Online, trying hard not to wake my partner Kelly. It was an important if not spectacular win, one that moves us four points clear of Burnley & Hull and ahead of Wigan on goal difference. Still need to pick up a few more points from the final four matches, but we’re all a little more confident this morning that the Hammers just might be staying in the Premiership.

Meanwhile it’s now Sunday night here in Canberra, and I’m sitting at home watching Manchester United v Blackburn Rovers as I write. With almost half an hour gone it’s 0-0. Wouldn’t that be a shame if it finished like that, or god forbid United lost again? No not really,it would be great.  I was delighted that Chelsea beat them last week, although not all that chuffed when Bayern knocked them out of the Champions League during the week. I’m not a great fan of United, however, for anyone British getting beaten in Europe by the Germans is still a bit haunting if you know what I mean.

Well what do you know the Final score was Blackburn Rovers 0 Manchester United 0. So looks like Chelsea are well on track to win the Premiership. Still a few games to go though, so can’t take anything for granted just yet.
