Newcastle United, the English team, not the Newcastle Jets from NSW, have sacked their manager, the honourable Chris Hughton, who led them back to the Premiership earlier this year.

The events of the last week have got me wondering if it’s worth being associated with football anymore. The game I’ve loved for over 40 years is in the hands of egotistical maniacs, Sepp Blatter, Roman Abramovich and this idiot Mike Ashley.

Chris Hughton, is a real footballing man who does not deserve this sort of treatment after restoring pride to the Toon. OK he’s not the biggest name in football, but does that really matter? Have a look at some of the results he has achieved, better than many big names could have done.

Abramovich is like a timebomb. Chelsea lose three games and there is talk about Ancelotti getting the boot. When does this madness end? We will end up having mangers sacked at half-time because their team is not playing well.

I recall David O’Leary getting sacked by Leeds after taking them into Europe. We all know what happened to Leeds after the sacking. Let’s hope better times are heaped on Newcastle.
